Renovations in Cambridge: Galt, Preston and Hespeler know-how

Cambridge is three Victorian mill towns wearing one name, with three heritage districts and a river that remembers 1974. Thirty minutes from our Brantford base, squarely in our range.

Three towns, three personalities

Since the 1973 amalgamation, Cambridge has really been Galt, Preston and Hespeler: granite, limestone and brick Victorian cores in all three, mill-workers' cottages, postwar bungalow belts, and the massive newer subdivisions east and south. A renovation quote in old Galt and one in Southwood are different trades wearing the same company shirt, and we bring both.

The two Cambridge layers to respect

"Old Galt is some of the best masonry housing stock in Ontario, and it punishes shortcuts: lime mortar, stone lintels, floodplain paperwork. The contractors who complain about Cambridge's approvals are the ones who design first and ask second. Do it in the right order and the city is a pleasure to build in."

Mitch Fraser, owner, Ontario Contracting Co.

Permits in Cambridge

The City of Cambridge runs its own online permit portal (not Cloudpermit, a difference that trips up out-of-town contractors). We handle the city process, the HCD heritage stream where it applies, and GRCA clearance on regulated lots. The universal trigger list in our permit guide applies province-wide.

What we build in Cambridge

Century and mill-era home renovations (the discipline from our heritage specialty), kitchens, bathrooms, basements and additions in the newer neighbourhoods, and commercial fit-ups in the three downtowns, scheduled per the fit-up playbook.
